Squad is a leadership and teamwork community that explores how to be a Tulanian as understood through the lens of school pride. A collaboration with Tulane Athletics Department, Squad is a dynamic and unique community that is centered on tradition, excellence, and school pride. Participants will live with like-minded peers that seek to create a vibrant and supportive campus environment, will engage in and develop initiatives that honor the history and values of the Tulane community, and will help to share the culture of the university through leadership development and opportunity to learn from coaches, athletics staff members, and leaders in the New Orleans community. Participants will also have access to exclusive athletic events, guest speakers, and an insider’s view of our athletic traditions.
HRL works in partnership with the Department of Athletics on the Squad RLC. If you have questions about the RLC content or programming, please contact Jana Woodson (jwoodson@tulane.edu), Associate Athletic Director, External Relations for the Department of Athletics.
Below are a few examples of past programs that Squad RLC students have participated in through the RLC. The programs vary each year with input from RLC students, staff, and faculty.
- The first pillar of squad is Leadership. Squad members had the opportunity to take part in a Leadership Assessment test at the beginning of the year, hear from a guest speaker on the topic to review their results and then discuss the topic at the end of the year to reassess their leadership qualities.
- The second pillar of Squad is teamwork. Squad members got the opportunity to work on the skill at an Escape Room downtown New Orleans. The RLC was split into three separate groups to escape from different scenarios by using teamwork, leadership and communication skills.
- The third pillar of Squad is school spirit. Squad has the opportunity for some VIP treatment when it comes to Tulane Athletics. Some perks include sideline passes to a football game, courtside seats at a basketball game, end of the year party in a baseball suite, behind the scenes tours and access to player only swag!
As a member of the Squad RLC, you must take a Tulane Interdisciplinary Experience Seminary (TIDES) course that is affiliated with the RLC. The TIDES program offers first-year courses to students to promote interdisciplinary scholarship and exploration. For descriptions of the courses being offered in each RLC please see the RLC application.
The Squad RLC will be located in Sharp Hall for the 2024-2025 academic year.
The RLC application can be found on your Housing Portal when you apply for housing. You must fill out both a Housing Application AND an RLC Application to be considered for the RLC.
