Fall Move-in is one of the most exciting Tulane moments for students, their families and the University community. In such uncertain times, it is important for us to provide an experience for students and their families that is centered around wellbeing and the health of the University community. We have made significant changes to our typical move-in plans that will emphasize safety and the protection of students, their families, and the University staff who will come together to welcome students to campus.

While logistics planning continues for Fall 2020 Move-In, we want to share critical information with you now so you may begin planning your arrival. Please take time to carefully read through this information and share it with those in your family who need to have input on your arrival plan.

More specific information will be emailed and posted online regarding Move-In logistics as we get closer to the Fall semester. Please join us for a Move-in Webinar on Friday, June 26 at 2:00 p.m. CST to hear about Move-in details.

  • The University is currently planning to ask students to arrive over several days to ensure that students and staff are able to practice social distancing during their arrival. These dates are tentatively August 10 – 13 for new students and August 14 – 17 for upper class students.
  • We plan to allow students to choose their arrival day and 30-minute arrival time slot in the Housing Portal. We expect to send time slot selection instructions as part of student assignment e-mails in late June. Students should not make travel arrangements until they have confirmed their time slot. Roommates will not be able to select the same time slot.
  • The University is making plans for an off-campus TU Arrival Center at one of the major city hotels with ballroom and meeting space that allows for students and their family to safely practice social distancing in line with recommended protocols. The TU Arrival Center will be the central destination where students and family members will begin the Fall move-in process. Students will be tested for COVID-19 at the arrival center. The center will also allow for expanded pre-orientation programming for students and parents in a safe location adhering to social distance practices. The selected hotel property will also have special nightly rates for students and parents. More information will be available in the next several weeks.
  • On June 5, we sent a message to students regarding their option to request a single room off-campus for the 2020 – 2021 academic year. Students who wish to request this option must complete the associated form by June 22 at 12:00 p.m.
  • Given the recommendations from the CDC, The City of New Orleans and Tulane University Campus Health, students will be asked to bring no more than one (1) non-student guest with them on campus for move-in. We understand that this is different from our normal move-in experience, but this decision was made to prioritize the health and wellbeing of the University community.
  • This year we will not coordinate TU Move Krewe Volunteers to assist with moving belongings. Instead we will offer in-room package delivery with no limit on the number of boxes that can be shipped. In-room delivery includes packages shipped from online vendors, linens and room décor from OCM, and items stored with University & Student Services over the summer. We expect that students will need to have their items delivered in New Orleans between July 15 and July 31 to participate in this program. Students are responsible for the cost of shipping packages – packages are delivered to student rooms at no additional cost.
  • Tulane University has made significant efforts to ensure that the residence halls are safe for students to occupy in both double and single rooms in the fall. The University maintains the belief that the safest place for our students is on campus. Additional efforts to maintain a safe environment include deep cleaning and sanitization of the residence halls, maintenance and optimization of HVAC systems and reconfiguration of shared communal spaces.  Additional steps will be taken when students arrive on campus.

We understand that plans may need to be adjusted for students facing unique circumstances. Please communicate your needs to us as early as possible by sending an e-mail to housing@tulane.edu and we will assist you with making your move-in plan.
