EXTENDED STAY & MAYMESTER STUDENTS

Extended Stay Request

Extended stay requests are for students who need to stay beyond May 9 at Noon, but are not Maymester or Summer Housing students.

Maymester Students

Students staying until May 24 at noon for Maymester should submit the Extended Stay Request Form, indicate that they are registered for a Maymester course, and apply for summer housing by submitting a summer housing application in the Housing Portal.

SUMMER HOUSING

Summer Housing is available for any Tulane student needing to stay on campus between Spring and Fall semesters. The minimum stay is 2 weeks. Please visit our Summer Housing page to learn more about this option and how to apply.

ALL STUDENTS

Please use the guide below to make sure your room is ready to go before you leave. Failure to complete the appropriate checkout process will result in an improper checkout fee of $100 in addition to any damage, trash removal, or key replacement costs.

All residents must complete the appropriate check-out process before leaving campus:

Students who live in Aron, Butler, Décou-Labat, Décou-Labat Townhomes, Greenbaum, Josephine Louise, Mayer, Sharp, and Warren must pick up an Express Checkout envelope from their area front desk or the Housing & Residence Life office.

  • As you're preparing to leave, make sure to fully complete the Move Out Checklist below.
  • When you're leaving your room for good, lock your door then place your room key inside your completed envelope and seal it shut.
  • Turn in your sealed, completed envelope at the Housing and Residence Life office. There is a black drop box near the entrance of the office which is in River Hall for turning in an envelope when the office is closed.

Students who live in Lake, Monroe, River, Wall, and Weatherhead must complete the Self Checkout process in the Housing Portal right before they leave campus.

  • Confirm your departure date and time by completing the End of Semester Plans form in the Housing Portal. This form will be available between April 1 and May 2.
  • Do NOT submit a ServiceWave for maintenance issues in your room / suite / apartment unless it needs to be addressed urgently. Know that submitting a ServiceWave does not absolve students of being assessed damage charges for applicable damages.
  • Leave any Command adhesive strips on your wall. Maintenance staff will remove them to prevent tearing the paint on your wall.
  • Make arrangements to remove all personal belongings from your room / suite / apartment. You will be charged if any personal belongings need to be removed after you leave. The University provides options to store your items for the summer or ship your items home.
  • Students who use the USS water service should bring empty jugs to the LA Waters truck during their stops on April 27 or April 30. Leave your water cooler inside your room door when you check out. It will be picked up by USS after the residence halls close.
  • Remove all trash from your room, bathroom, hallway, common room, etc. You will be charged if any trash needs to be removed after you leave.

This is in addition to the $100 improper checkout fee and any applicable key charges. Items will be held for 10 days; unclaimed items shall be deemed abandoned by the resident and the university may discard of such property without liability.

Move Out Parking

Students may park and load vehicles in any marked Tulane parking spot for up to 30 minutes during residence hall move-out. Select spots on McAlister Drive, Janet Yulman Way, and Newcomb Place will be blocked off to serve as loading spots for students. Fire lanes and areas next to buildings will be monitored closely. If a student is parked in a fire lane or other illegal area next to the buildings that inhibits emergency traffic flow, their vehicle will be ticketed and/or towed.

DONATIONS, TRASH, AND RECYCLING

Donations

Donated personal items cannot be left in building lobbies or lounges, and must be brought to a donation area closest to your residence hall. Students will be charged if found to have left personal items in building lobbies.

Trash to Treasure (T2T) is a Tulane organization that coordinates the collection of unwanted items. Some items are donated to local organizations with assistance from CPS, while others are stored over the summer to be sold during move-in at their resale location. Collection dates are May 3rd - May 9th.

T2T will collect at the following 7 locations during move out, May 4th-May 10th, 10 am-3 pm except for the last day, when they will close at 1 pm:
  • 2 pods in the Gravel Lot near Aron off Ben Weiner
  • 1 Pod between Butler & Weatherhead off Willow Street
  • 1 Pod near Josephine Louise recycling station
  • 1 Pod behind Sharp Hall near the construction fence
  • Truck/Van collections supported by T2T
    • In front of the Small Family Collaboration Hub
    • Behind Monroe, in partnership with Local Organization
  • Drop-off station at Devlin Fieldhouse along Freret

Typical items to donate include: furniture, organizational supplies, hangers, lamps, kitchenware, mirrors, gently used clothes, and electronics. T2T will also collect and distribute toiletries, feminine hygiene supplies, laundry detergent, and unopened food to local organizations. Students are encouraged to bring their items to one of the T2T locations.

Please note: collection locations can only accommodate items that fit into a residence hall, larger items will not be accepted.

Want to volunteer with Trash to Treasure?  Sign-ups to help with the Geaux Green Move-Out collection will open in mid-April, or contact recycle@tulane.edu for more information.

Trash & Recycling

Beginning May 5th all trash rooms and chutes in residence halls will be closed. Students are expected to take all trash and recycling items to the dumpsters and designated cardboard recycling areas outside of their residence hall. Items left in hallways common areas, or non-designated areas outside cause health and safety concerns for students guests. As such, students will be charged a damage fee for any items left in unapproved locations during the move-out period.

To avoid this, we recommend starting early. Begin going through you items before May, donate or discard them in advance of final exams and the move out period.

SUMMER STORAGE & SHIPPING

Summer Storage

Tulane University's approved summer storage partner is University & Student Services. No other storage vendor is approved to operate on campus. USS has been vetted by the University to be in compliance with University vendor insurance and background check protocols, and have agreed to operate within University policies and procedures.

Residents who use USS to store their belongings over the summer should leave their packaged and labeled belongings in their locked room when they check out. After the residence halls close, Housing & Residence Life staff will provide access for USS to pick up student belongings for storage.

USS offers partial and full summer storage, as well as semester and year-long storage options. Please review the University & Student Services website for rates and details.

USS will be on McAlister near the LBC April 21 - May 9 for box kit pickup, and purchasing for additional supplies.

Tulane University's preferred shipping vendor is FedEx, located in the Lavin-Bernick Center for University Life.  FedEx will also have a satellite location in the Pederson Lobby of the Lavin-Bernick Center for University Life for students to ship items or purchase supplies.
