The following message was sent to students who have selected a Move-In time slot on July 8, 2020:
Hello Student,
We look forward to welcoming you to campus in a few weeks! Below is important information about the TU Arrival Center.
To help protect the health of our campus community Tulane has instituted an Arrival Center, where all students who live on campus (and in Green Wave Hall) will stay for two nights – as their first stop in New Orleans – before proceeding to campus. It will be at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 601 Loyola Ave., in downtown New Orleans. The Hyatt Regency has partnered with Tulane to provide the entire property for the TU Arrival Center which allows for a significant amount of space to ensure physical distancing and safety protocols.
All residential students have been asked to select a move-in time slot via the online Housing Portal prior to their arrival. First-year students are scheduled for move-in between August 10-13, while returning students are scheduled between August 14-17.
The Arrival Center will serve a variety of needs, which include:
- Testing all students for COVID-19 prior to moving into the residence halls.
- Providing the setting for student and parent orientation sessions prior to the start of classes (The schedule of programs and orientation meetings at the Arrival Center will be provided as they become available).
- Providing access to critical services such as advising, financial aid, bursar, etc.
Students who are registered to live in the residence halls are required to arrive at the Arrival Center 48 hours prior to their scheduled on-campus move-in time slot.
- Students and parents are highly encouraged to stay at the TU Arrival Center/Hyatt Regency.
- Modifications to our testing protocols or special requests are not possible given the significant number of tests being conducted each day.
- Failure to get tested on your scheduled day will result in you not being allowed to move into your residence hall at the time you selected.
Hotel details:
- Students and parents have a block of rooms set based on your move in date.
- An additional block of rooms is available for parents requiring additional accommodations. (7.20 edit: this block has been removed to allow for additional space within the student reservation blocks)
- Room rate includes grab and go breakfast for both mornings in the hotel.
- Parents are encouraged to stay at the Arrival Center but can also stay in the local area if needed.
Here is the link to register for your stay at the Hyatt [Customized link provided via e-mail]. Please note that this link is connected to your selected move in day (do not forward the link to other students as they may have a different move in day).
The link to reserve a room in the room block for parents needing additional rooms is here.
Move-In Day information:
- Students will not be permitted to check into their residence hall without first getting tested for COVID-19 at the TU Arrival Center testing center 48 hours before their move-in time slot.
- After receiving a negative result, Tulane will provide shuttles from the Arrival Center to the Uptown Campus for students to check into their residence halls. All students will be expected to utilize these shuttles. One parent will be allowed to accompany each student on the campus shuttle.
- Students are allowed two large pieces of luggage and a backpack on the shuttle. It is highly encouraged that students utilize the ship-to-room program.
- Physical distancing and safety protocols will be in place at all times, including during the shuttle ride to campus.
Each day’s move-in time slots are distributed evenly across the student population to ensure that only approximately 25% of each residence hall is moving in on any one day to support physical distancing throughout the move-in process. Additional FAQs about the TU Arrival Center, move-in information and procedures can be found on our Move-In Webpage.
