Health Wave RLC

ABOUT THE RLC

A communal living opportunity focused on self-care, wellness, and public health, Health Wave encourages students to take care of themselves and their communities. Initiatives include workshops, health and well-being field trips, dinners with guest faculty and staff speakers, access to exclusive well-being programs, and nutritional support.

CAMPUS PARTNER

HRL works in partnership with Campus Health on the Health Wave RLC. If you have questions about the RLC content or programming, please contact Sonia Williams-Aghimien (swilliamsaghimien@tulane.edu), Health Promotion Specialist at The Well for Health Promotion.

PROGRAM EXAMPLES

Below are a few examples of past programs that Health Wave RLC students have participated in through the RLC. The programs vary each year with input from RLC students, staff, and faculty.

  • Healthy Cooking Class: Students were able to learn basic cooking skills and make a simple and nutritious meal with Nutritionist Sarah Walsh in the Butler Community Kitchen. Every student participated and it helped them learn how to maintain a healthy diet while living in a dormitory setting.
  • Dinner and Discussions: Each month, students were treated to a catered meal and intimate conversation with a faulty member of the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine or a practitioner from Campus Health. This was our most popular event because it was a chance to get to know faculty and staff outside the classroom and learn about current public health issues. Past guests include Assistant Vice President of Campus Health, Dr. Scott Tims and CAPS Director, Dr. Donna Bender.
  • Tunica Falls Hike: Students took a day trip to Tunica Falls, MS and spent the day hiking and taking in pristine topography. Tunica Falls is also home to over 40 waterfalls, so students were able to get wet and take amazing pictures.

TIDES COURSES

As a member of the Health Wave RLC, you must take a Tulane Interdisciplinary Experience Seminary (TIDES) course that is affiliated with the RLC. The TIDES program offers first-year courses to students to promote interdisciplinary scholarship and exploration. For descriptions of the courses being offered in each RLC, please visit this site.
