Residence Halls close on Sunday, May 11th, 2008 at 10 a.m.
Time to start packing and making the most of your summer! Here is what you need to know to check-out of your room
- All residents MUST check-out of their rooms within 24 hours of their last exam or by Sunday, May 11th, 2008 at 10 a.m., whichever comes first.
- The residence halls close Sunday, May 18th at 5 p.m. for graduates. Graduating Seniors and students who have special circumstances, for consideration must fill out a Request to Stay Beyond Form for approval by May 2, 2008. [NOTE: Students who apply for Summer Housing DO NOT complete this form]
- 24-Hour Quiet Hours begin April 29th, 2008 at 9 p.m.
- Start talking to your roommate(s) now about any damage in the room, suite, or apartment. Any damage not claimed by an individual will be charged to all residents of that room, suite, or apartment.
- All keys must be turned in at the time of check-out. If room key is not returned a charge of $90 will be assessed. [NOTE: Keys mailed to Housing and Residence Life after you have checked out will not be accepted.]
- RAs conduct inspections and take photographs of the room damage for final review by hall management. In addition, you may also be billed for damages found during the follow-up inspection conducted by the hall management and facilities staff, conducted after your check-out.
- Personal property left in a room after you have moved out, whether by proper or improper check-out will be considered to have been abandoned and will be removed at your expense. Tulane University is not responsible for loss or damage to abandoned property.

- Schedule a check-out appointment with your RA at least 48 hours before your departure. Remember that RAs have exams, too! Plan ahead! RAs will have a schedule posted outside of their rooms with the times they are available to check you out. If your RA is unavailable during a time slot you would like, sign up to check-out with another RA in your building.
- You must check-out! There is an improper check out fee for anyone who leaves without completing their Room Condition Report.
Before your checkout appointment, be sure to do the following…
- Be considerate when packing and “taking down your room”. Other people may still have exams, and quiet hours will be in effect until closing!
- Make the appropriate arrangements NOW for storage in order to avoid hassles later.
- Remove ALL personal belongings from your room. You will NOT be checked out until all of your belongings are out of your room
- Remove all posters, signs, hangings, etc. from your walls, door exterior, and door interior. Even if you are the first to check out, ALL walls and doors must be clear! No nails, tape, or hooks should be attached (or have damaged!) the walls.
- Assemble all University furniture as it was upon check-in and remove your personal furniture items. There is a minimum charge of $50 to reassemble beds and remove non-Tulane furniture, cinder blocks, bathroom accessories, etc.
- Make sure that windows are locked with blinds completely down and turned open.
- Your room should be left clean: trash removed, carpet swept, closets and drawers wiped down. If your room is not sufficiently clean, there will be a minimum cleaning charge of $90.
- Take all trash to dumpsters and all recycling to recycling bins. Any trash left in hallways will be billed to the building through community damage billing. All trash left in your room will be billed directly to you
