Resident Advisor
The Student Technology Coordinator serves as a member of the Housing Services Team in the overall operations and management of Housing Services. The STC assists the Department of Housing and Residence Life by maintaining, updating and supporting the website and associated sites and applications. In addition, the STC assists with development and implementation of new technology-related tools and with identifying new uses for current technology. This position is a year-long position beginning April 1, including summer months, and continuing through the following academic year.

Qualifications Responsibilities Terms
 

  1. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
    1. WEBSITE MANAGEMENT (70-80%):
      1. Assume responsibility for maintaining and updating online materials including:
        - http://housing.tulane.edu and associated sites (jobs, arrive)
        - Blackboard Staff Manual Course & Residence Hall Courses
        - Departmental Survey Tools
      2. Understand and adhere to University and divisional web standards.
      3. Schedule, publish, and maintain 10-12 hours each week at the central office during the academic year. Maintain availability during peak programs and services events.
      4. Attend weekly supervision meeting with the Housing Services Team.
      5. Attend all related web-team/task force or assigned staff meetings.
      6. Assist in developing and employing new applications via our website including web submission forms and related tools.
      7. Research and identify potential new uses for technology within our office environment.
      8. Assist with training staff members as appropriate during fall and winter training and as new staff members are hired.
      9. Develop ability to train on the following programs: Meeting Maker, Adobe, Blackboard.

    2. TECHNOLOGY ADMINISTRATION (5-10%):
      1. Hire, train, and supervise one technology assistant.
      2. Provide weekly updates for technology staff.
      3. Maintain technology-related request list and assist in prioritizing and assigning tasks to staff.
      4. Deploy and maintain front desk computer systems, area staff computers, central office computers and departmental leadership team computers with a over 250 total users.
      5. Maintain inventory of computer systems including all relative information.
      6. Monitor all systems in concert with divisional policies through routine visits and updates.

    3. DIVISIONAL SUPPORT (5-10%):
      1. Develop and maintain a relationship with the Associate Director of Technology Services for Student Affairs and assist with divisional needs as available.
      2. Assist with management or updating of divisional websites as needed and available. Post and maintain necessary information at the front desk (phone numbers, office hours, services available, etc.).

  2. QUALIFICATIONS
    1. Minimum of one “term” of positively-evaluated experience as a student staff member in the Department or Division of Student Affairs including but not limited to Resident Advisor, Orientation Coordinator, Desk Service Coordinator, Student Worker at Tulane University; sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate academic status by the start of the year following selection. Please note: We may consider accepting applications from other students with credible
      technology-related experiences at Tulane University. All things being equal, preference may be given to current Department and Division staff.
    2. Current full-time undergraduate or graduate student with overall minimum cumulative 2.50 GPA (for undergraduate students) at the time of employment and maintain a cumulative 2.50 GPA throughout the period of employment. Graduate students must maintain good academic standing with their colleges.
    3. High level of maturity with demonstrated exceptional administrative, organizational and interpersonal skills.
    4. Web-related skills needed include: Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, Frontpage, basic HTML, Java Scripts, Dreamweaver/Macromedia/Studio MX (required), and Microsoft Office (Access and Excel).

  3. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
    1. PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT: The period of employment extends for approximately thirteen months beginning April 1 and terminating at the end of the following academic year. The Student Technology Coordinator must either be available for employment for the entire summer or a portion thereof. The summer months, while negotiable, are a critical time for assignments and preparation of our Department and Division for new students. Preference will be given to those who can commit to the entire time requested.
    2. REMUNERATION: Academic-Year Remuneration (August 15th est. – May): a $2600 stipend paid in biweekly increments; housing provided is valued at $2500 per semester and will be in the form of a single room or a bedroom within an Aron Apartment. A meal plan, equivalent to that received by Resident Advisors, is also provided.
      Summer Employment Remuneration (April 1st – August 15th) in the form of an hourly wage and housing provided at a value of $2500. Total compensation for summer employment is equivalent to at least $13 per hour. Average work week is 30 to 40 hours per week during normal business hours. We cannot guarantee a particular hall or room type given the varying construction and renovation schedules each year. There is no meal plan provided during summer
      months.
    3. CONTINUATION OF EMPLOYMENT: Continuation of employment is dependant on the successful completion of all tasks, positive evaluation by the Housing Services Team, and continued exhibition of growth and enthusiasm for the position.
    4. COMMITMENT: The Student Technology Coordinator position must be the primary non-academic commitment. If an extracurricular activity or other job is interfering with the staff member’s ability to perform his or her duties to the standards set by the Housing Services Team, the Student Technology Coordinator will be asked to make immediate, necessary changes to come back into acceptable standards or to end his or her outside position.
