Resident Advisor
The Desk Services Coordinator serves a vital function in the Department of Housing and Residence Life. The Desk Service Coordinator's (DSC's) function is to serve at one of several area service desks. The DSC maintains the service desk and ensures that it is a clean and professional information and resource center for the residential community. When working in desk attendant roles, the DSC is the first line of contact and security within a building, and is thus expected to maintain a professional, helpful and friendly attitude. The purpose of the DSC position is to administer area desk services and secure the residence hall. As a desk attendant, the DSC serves as the face of Housing and Residence Life to residents, students, faculty, staff and guests. In this role, the DSC is expected to maintain a professional atmosphere. Desk Service Coordinators are assigned a total of five to fifteen hours of work per week. This time will be divided between desk attendant duties, facilities management tasks, and administrative duties. DSCs work both weekday and weekend hours, and the service desk is open twenty-four hours each day. DSCs are often expected to work late evening and early morning shifts. In order to ensure the desk operation is smooth and professional, it is imperative that all employees arrive for their shifts in a prompt and timely manner.
