- KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
- COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT (25%):
- Supervise full-time interns, graduate hall directors,
and paraprofessional student staff members. - Conduct formal evaluations in the fall and spring semesters, and engage in ongoing informal evaluations with all staff.
- Oversee implementation of resident developed programming and individual contact models in the residence halls.
- Support campus-wide programming initiatives.
- Support the university’s Residential College initiatives.
- Promote leadership development, self-governance opportunities, as well as civic engagement through resident involvement.
- Provide a high level of visibility and availability to students, while serving as a role model for students and staff.
- Conduct weekly staff and management team meetings.
- Submit weekly reports to the Director of Residence Life including any issues related to staffing.
- Collect weekly individual contact reports from each resident advisor directly or indirectly supervised.
- Maintain an area programming database to track resident developed programming.
- Advise Residence Hall Governments in each area including the community leadership councils.
- Submit formal fall and spring evaluations for each staff member supervised.
- Attend weekly one-on-one meetings with the Director of Residence Life.
- Attend weekly departmental staff meetings.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
- HOUSING SERVICES(25%):
- Provide a coordinated delivery of services and resources via the residential area service desk.
- Project a positive student service attitude with particular attention to engaging students in problem solving.
- Communicate Housing Services, Facilities Services, and other Service-related department policies and procedures to campus residents.
- Properly maintain and staff a residential area service desk.
- Coordinate opening and closing processes for a residential area including maintaining accurate inventories and condition reports of facilities, furniture, and equipment.
- Complete occupancy reports of residential areas.
- Administer community standards and residence hall policies as they relate to housing services.
- Coordinate assessment and benchmarking activities for residential area in conjunction with department goals and objectives.
- Maintain accurate occupancy information, including up to date rosters.
- Process billing for related services or facilities charges as needed.
- Process vandalism charges on a community or individual basis as appropriate.
- Ensure that Room Condition Reports have been filed for each student in the residential area.
- Follow up with the Director of Housing Services to ensure that facilities, furniture, and equipment concerns are addressed in a timely manner.
- Select, train, and evaluate work-study students to serve as Desk Service Coordinators.
- Process bi-weekly payroll for Desk Service Coordinators.
- Conduct inventories of all keys, common areas, and equipment at the beginning and end of each semester.
- GENERAL MANAGEMENT AND ADMINISTRATION (15%):
- Maintain daily office hours.
- Investigate thoroughly and respond promptly and professionally to all complaints of students, parents, Tulane University administrators and others to provide accurate information and foster positive public relations.
- Serve on departmental and university wide committees as requested.
- Assume responsibility for collateral or special assignments within the department or division.
- Assist with departmental strategic planning and development.
- Respond to all calls and e-mail messages within 24 hours.
- Log all calls and record responses appropriately.
- Serve on at least one university/division-wide committee.
- Coordinate processes as dictated by collateral assignments.
- Attend professional development opportunities as able.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
- CRISIS MANAGEMENT (15%):
- Serve in a campus wide emergency response rotation and as part of the emergency management team for the university.
- Serve as an essential personnel during emergency operations, including participation in and implementation of university responses to hurricanes and other emergency situations.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to security, behavioral, and counseling situations.
- Ensure that crisis response records are maintained confidentially in the central office.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
- Serve as the on-call person for the university every eighth week (24/7), and handle emergencies and crises.
- Promote emergency response planning and education within residential community and ensure preparedness plans are completed according to university guidelines.
- Maintain a log of all calls received during the on-call time.
- Process referrals to the Educational Resource and Counseling Center, the Office of Alcohol Initiatives, or the Student Health Center as necessary and within 72 hours of precipitating incident(s).
- Attend monthly Students At Risk Meetings.
- Maintain student files centrally, including records of crisis response.
- Contribute to on-going assessments of the university and departmental crisis response process.
- JUDICIAL AND BEHAVIORAL DUTIES(10%):
- Support and administer all university, and departmental policies, regulations, and conduct standards.
- Serve as a university judicial officer.
- Promote the development and responsibility of individuals and communities using student development theories.
- Encourage students to use the mediation process to solve interpersonal disputes.
- Collect and review area incident reports and turn in within 24 hours of the date of the incident to the Director of Residence Life.
- Process referrals to the Educational Resource and Counseling Center, the Office of Alcohol Initiatives, or the Student Health Center as necessary and within 72 hours of precipitating incident(s).
- Ensure that all first year students have completed roommate contracts by the 6th week of the semester.
- Provide the Judicial Coordinator with ten hours per week for judicial hearings.
- Use resident advisors’ individual contact reports and one on one meetings to identify students who may be at risk.
- Maintain student files centrally, including records of judicial processes.
- Contribute to on-going assessments of the university judicial code.
- FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT (5%):
- Oversee residential area budget, allocating funds to area programs, quad-wide events, staff expenses and other purchases.
- Maintain accurate financial records for area budget.
- Turn in monthly purchase card logs and review transactions according to schedule.
- Turn in monthly budget reconciliation statements.
- OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED (5%):
- Perform other duties as required or requested whether or not specifically listed on this job description.
- Exhibit a willingness to learn new tasks.
- Seek the assistance of supervisor prior to beginning an unfamiliar assignment.

- Master’s Degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education, or related field
- Two years residence life experience preferred
- Previous supervisory, advisory, programming, and judicial experience
- Ability to apply student development theory in daily practice
- Demonstrated commitment to personal and departmental development, professionalism, multi-cultural education, creativity, collaboration, and initiative
- Sense of humor strongly encouraged
