Students with health and safety emergencies
within the residence hall, or anywhere on campus, should dial x5200
from a campus phone or (504) 865-5200 from an off-campus phone to
reach the Tulane Department of Public Safety, which can dispatch
the Tulane Emergency Medical Service (TEMS), the student-staffed
campus EMS service, or other emergency response personnel.
Students also have access to the Tulane Student Health Center, which can be reached at (504) 865-5255 (uptown location). More information about the Student Health Center is available at http://www.tulane.edu/%7Ehealth/.
Although it is not mandatory, students are also requested to make an effort to contact their Resident Advisor after appropriate medical attention has been sought, especially if the health and safety emergency occurred within the hall. Resident Advisors are responsible and conscientious employees of the Department of Housing and Residential Life, and awareness of the health and safety emergencies of their residents aids them in better performing their duties and preventing future accidents.
Personal Safety Emergencies
Blue-Light Phones
There are many Blue-Light Phones (emergency phone terminals usually distinguishable by a flashing blue light after dark) located throughout campus that provide a direct connection to TUPD, staffed 24-hours-a-day. If you have or know of a crime that is occurring, a fire or medical emergency, or need to request an escort, simply pick up the handset or press the “call” button and you will be connected to an operator.
Escorts
The Department of Public Safety provides security escorts to ensure the safety of those who are traveling on campus, especially after nightfall. To request the escort service, call (504) 865 – 5381. The Public Safety dispatch will arrange for an escort to meet you and accompany you to your destination.
