Tulane University has a very active student body!
A large percentage of students participate in study abroad, exchange
programs or internships outside of the New Orleans area. This information
is for students who participate in one of these programs.
Going Away for the Spring
Semester
Students departing for a spring
semester should submit a Cancellation Form and Leave of Absence
Form to Housing and Residence Life by November 1. Both forms can be found on the Forms
& Contracts page. The Cancellation Form simply cancels your
assignment for the spring semester. The Leave of Absence Form indicates
a plan to return to campus at a specified point in time. This form
keeps your name and information in the queue to receive information
about the application and room selection process for the following
academic year.
Students who are away must
maintain contact with Tulane via email. It is imperative that you keep
up with important and official communication from us while away.
Your @tulane.edu email address is the exclusive and official form
of communication and should be checked routinely. Information regarding
the application and room selection process can be found on our website
each January.
Going Away for the Fall
Semester
Students departing for a fall
semester should NOT apply for housing for the fall semester in which
you plan to go abroad. You should submit a Leave of Absence
Form to our department by April 1. This form can be found on the Forms
& Contracts page. The Leave of Absence form indicates a plan
to return to campus at a specified point in time. This form keeps
your name and contact information in the queue to receive information
regarding the assignments process for the following spring semester.
Assignments for students returning
to campus in January are issued in mid-November to early December.
Specific requests for rooms or roommates should be provided on the
Leave of Absence Form or emailed to applyhrl@tulane.edu by November 1.
Going Away for an Entire
Academic Year (Fall then Spring)
Students departing for an entire
year should submit a Cancellation Form and Leave of Absence Form
to Housing and Residence Life by April 1. Both forms can be found on the Forms
& Contracts page. The Cancellation Form simply cancels your
assignment or application for the following year (if you applied
through the application process). The Leave of Absence Form indicates
a plan to return to campus at a specified point in time. This form
