Residence Life

second-year students enjoy smores at the annual soph-smores event on the lbc quad

Through our residential curriculum, the Department of Housing and Residence Life offers students intentional learning opportunities while they reside in the residence halls. The residential curriculum is founded on numerous student development theories to provide a comprehensive overview of student experiences at Tulane University.

EDUCATIONAL PRIORITY

Students living in residential communities at Tulane University will become engaged scholars and responsible citizens through transformational and purposeful learning opportunities.

EDUCATIONAL PILLARS

Academic Engagement | Multicultural Competence | Community Engagement
Intrapersonal Development | Wellness and Healthy Living

Academic Engagement: is an indicator that combined academic identification (which refers to getting along with faculty, having an interest in the subject matter, comfortable in their academic environment, and related behaviors and attitudes) and academic participation (which captures the resident's work effort both inside and outside of class, including hours spent on homework, meeting deadlines, not skipping classes, etc.)

Multicultural Competence: a set of congruent behaviors, knowledge, skills, attitudes, and beliefs that come together as a system to work effectively in cross-cultural situations; interacting positively and respectfully with people of differing identities, backgrounds and beliefs.

Community Engagement: describes collaboration between residents and their larger communities for the mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and resources in a context of partnership and reciprocity.

Intrapersonal Development: gaining and having awareness of how students affect the world around them through inner thoughts and beliefs occurring within their mind or self.

Wellness and Healthy Living: an active process through which students can become aware of, and make choices toward, a more healthy existence through utilization of health practices such as coping skills, healthy physical fitness, and nutritional habits.
