Josephine-Louise Hall, better known as JL,
is a charming, three-story building and one of four original buildings
on the present Newcomb campus. It is the second Newcomb College
residence hall to be named in honor of the school's benefactress,
Mrs. Josephine Louise Lemonnier Newcomb (the first was on its 1880s
Garden District campus). Many of the rooms are unique in character
and do not have standard dimensions. The building offers many popular
features such as moveable, Shaker-style, wood furniture; lovely,
old-fashioned, casement windows; high ceilings; extra long mattresses;
mounted bookshelves; and cable TV and Internet access. Many rooms
have a sink and mirror in one corner.
JL is a nonsmoking, all female hall with open
visitation and a Desk Service Coordinator on duty twenty-four hours
a day. All visitors must show their IDs at the desk from 8 p.m.
to 8 a.m. Male visitors in the building must be escorted at all
times.
